ALT AGM – The Next Best Thing to Being There

While the Annual General Meeting of the Jane Austen Society of North America was taking place in Williamsburg, Virginia, we held our own pre-season meeting of JASNA Florida Southwest region. It was decided we would call it the ALT AGM.

Tea at Brambles

You might think that you stepped into another land when you walk down the brick path heading to the area’s most British Tea Room.

Six of our local members had a resplendent time on October 5, when we gathered for tea and conversation at Brambles English Tea Room and Gift Shop in Naples, FL.

After all, it is a truth universally acknowledged, that Janeites in want of an AGM are certainly in need of tea, and scones. The atmosphere was lovely, and the food was delicious!

It was a glorious day!

The conversation was all things Austen. Brainstorming ideas for future meetings, and the upcoming PBS production of Sanditon; how will they end it? Does Sidney Parker get the girl? Which girl?

We talked about the difference in Devonshire Cream and Clotted Cream and Anja told of her attempt at making homemade clotted cream. Plans were discussed for many more tea time outings and everyone expressed an interest in another costume workshop.

Living Vicariously Through Stories of England!

Ann shared her photos and experiences on this year’s JASNA Tour of England, of which she will tell us more when we have our next official meeting in November.  Since this year’s theme was Northanger Abbey, in addition to visiting Steventon, Chawton and locations related to Jane Austen’s life, the group also visited Bath and Blaise Castle and spent the last night in a hotel that was once an abbey, completed with a moat! Catherine Moreland would have loved it!
